STARTER KITS

These are our simplest kits, requiring only simple folds and no soldering.

All machining has been completed, and the kits are assembled using nuts, screws and glue.

The steam chest and cylinder units will come part assembled, with pistons and valves already in place so you only need to carry out the final assembly and seal them.

We will complete all essential soldering and sheet metal forming for you.

You will need a simple set of fine files, small screwdrivers, pliers and spanners. tweezers can also be useful for holding the small screws in position. A small electric drill or hand drill will be useful for drilling out the pilot holes.

For all our customers we are happy to answer any build queries over the phone or via email. We offer soldering and forming lessons in our workshop a few times a year, so keep an eye on our News page for the latest dates.

We understand that things can go wrong, and very small parts can get easily lost, so spare parts for all our kits can be purchased separately

Unpowered, Spirit or Coal?

Unpowered Kits:

These kits contain everything you need to produce a rolling model. All etchings, laser frames, castings and other bodywork details are included, but there are no mechanical details or electrics to enable the loco to run. These kits are perfect for you to add in your own electrics and radio control.

Spirit Kits:

These contain everything from the static kit, as well as all the steam fittings, pipework and boiler to produce a meths fired loco.

Coal Fired:

Some of our kits have a large enough boiler to enable coal firing! This kit will contain everything from the static kit, Plus a fire grate, ashpan, pipe fittings and a boiler suitable for coal firing.
